"Why am I so..?"

We should analyse ourselves, as to what we really like to read, which type of books, either puranas or novels, etc. We should also think about what type of food, water, etc., we really wish to take, whether spicy food, non-veg., hot drinks, tea, or water, etc.
This gives us an idea as to what type of a person predominantly we are satvik, rajasik or tamasik in nature. Accordingly we can make changes so that our satvik nature can be increased...

There is a sloka in Srimad Bhagavatam:
Aagamo-apah prajah desah kalah karmah cha janma cha
Dhyanam mantro-atha samskaaro dasah-ete guna-hetave...
(Srimad Bhagavatam Skandam 11/chapter 13/sloka 4).
Satvaguna-the vardhippikkunna 10 sadhanangal:-
1. Agamah - or Vedam or Sastram - What you like to read?
2. Apah - vellam or jalam - (introspect: what you wish to drink? - hot drinks, tea, cool drinks or water?)
3.Prajah - janangal - the people you like to have company? (introspect)
4. Desah - sthalam - place you like to live? (introspect: near a temple, near a cinema theatre or slaughter-house?)
5. Kalah - time - the time to select for getting up, doing japa, etc. (introspect)
6. Karmah - pravruthi - the work you like to do? Swadharma is always satwik karma. (introspect - satvik, rajasik or tamasic?)
7.Janmah - jananam - to whom you are born? have you given a good janma to your children?
8. Dhyanah - Satvik murti ?
9. Mantrah - Satvik mantra?
10. Samskaarah - upanayana-adi; what culture you inherited from ancestors and teachers?
